How much is protected?

The decision to formally protect a forest area is made by the Swedish county authorities. The protection is strong and prohibits exploitation, logging and clearcutting. In Sweden, approximately 6 percent of productive forest land is formally protected. But the protection is unevenly distributed, not entirely representative, and in the absolute majority of the forest area, which is outside the montain forest region, less than 4 percent is formally protected. There is also other forest land where forestry is more or less prohibited. Nevertheless, common to these areas is the lack of clear boundaries, documentation of natural values and that there are no guarantees that they will not be logged.

Here you can see the amount of formally protected forests in your area. Note that the occurrence of formal protection is different in different parts of the country.
